Anna Virágová

Anna Virá­gová (c.1925, Sklabiná, Mar­tin dis­trict), sis­ter of Anton Facu­na (19201980), a leg­endary sol­dier and lat­er the most promi­nent Romani politi­cian, who from the 1950s onwards worked to ensure that the Roma could enjoy their nation­al rights in com­mu­nist Czecho­slo­va­kia; see also his tes­ti­mo­ny in the database.

Testimony origin

Anna Virá­gová was inter­viewed by her daugh­ter in Mar­tin in July 1998. Much of the infor­ma­tion con­cerns Anton Facu­na. Mrs Virá­gová had become unac­cus­tomed to using the Romani lan­guage dur­ing her life­time, there­fore most of the inter­view was con­duct­ed in Slovak.
