Romano dzaniben

Romano džaniben , z. s.

Milena Hübschmannová established the journal in 1994. It focuses on the language, history, and culture of the Roma. In addition to scholarly articles, the journal publishes original works by Romani writers; portraits of Romani personalities, artists, and activists; memoirs; research findings; and reviews and annotations of specialized Romani literature. It also publishes fiction by Romani authors. Texts are published in Czech, Slovak, or Romani, with English abstracts.

Since the journal’s inception, the editorial team has published testimonies and memoirs of Romani and Sinti individuals about World War II. Unless otherwise stated in the introduction, the testimonies are first recorded in the narrator’s home, then transcribed and edited, and finally authorized. Interviews are usually conducted by students or teachers of Romani studies from Faculty of Arts, Charles University.

Some of the testimonies mentioned in the journal were published in Milena Hübschmann’s book Po Židoch Cigáni.

The journal is published twice a year, is approximately 170 pages long, and is published in an edition of 300 copies. It is also available online with a complete archive.
