Waldemar Spallek

Walde­mar Spallek is assis­tant pro­fes­sor of geo­graph­ic infor­ma­tion sys­tems and car­tog­ra­phy at the Uni­ver­si­ty of Wrocław, Poland. In addi­tion to design­ing maps and oth­er geo­vi­su­al­iza­tions, he is a spe­cial­ist in the­mat­ic car­tog­ra­phy and the his­to­ry of car­tog­ra­phy. He is the author of a num­ber of car­to­graph­ic pub­li­ca­tions, includ­ing Kar­tografia tem­aty­cz­na [The­mat­ic Car­tog­ra­phy] (2012), Pol­skie szkolne atlasy geograficzne 1772 – 2012 [Pol­ish school geo­graph­ic atlases 1772 – 2012] (2018), as well as many atlases for stu­dents. He is also co-author (with Marcin Wodz­ińs­ki) of His­tor­i­cal Atlas of Hasidism (2018) pub­lished by the Prince­ton Uni­ver­si­ty Press. The atlas on one of today’s most impor­tant Jew­ish reli­gious move­ments was prized by many awards for its method­olog­i­cal inno­v­a­tive­ness, espe­cial­ly maps cre­at­ed with GIS-processed huge data­bas­es. Fur­ther­more, he was the author of the con­cep­tion and the edi­tor of Atlas Karkonoszy | Atlas Krkonoš (2021), which was cre­at­ed in coop­er­a­tion of Pol­ish and Czech scholars.
